Food Allergy Canada (FAC) is the definitive national resource for Canadians living with food sensitivities and life-threatening anaphylaxis. FAC serves a diverse and varied audience, including individuals managing food allergies, their families and caregivers, as well as professionals working in healthcare, education, and the food service industry.

Challenge

Food Allergy Canada (FAC) required a redesigned, AODA-compliant website that could cater to a diverse range of users, including caregivers, individuals living with food allergies, and professionals in education, healthcare, and food service. With limited internal resources, they sought a user-friendly and accessible platform that would enable users to find the information they needed quickly.

Process

Q30 led user research to develop personas and experience maps, which guided the design of prototypes and a user-centric information architecture. Usability testing revealed areas of confusion in the site structure, prompting us to merge and refine sections for clarity. We validated these updates through tree testing and ensured compliance with WCAG 2.0 AA standards. We recommended WordPress for its accessibility and ease of use, then customized templates, modules, and the admin interface—along with training to support FAC’s internal team.

Outcome

The new site is accessible, intuitive, and tailored to meet user needs. Engagement rose sharply, with average session time increasing from 50 seconds to over 2 minutes. FAC can now update content independently, ensuring the site remains timely, relevant, and responsive.

Let’s make something better together.
